Serial rapist Jaishankar, who was nabbed on Friday after his daring escape from Bangalore Central Prison, was remanded in police custody until September 16 by the 9 Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court on Saturday.

The South-East division police, who took him into custody, is continuing the probe into his escape and is attempting to extract details from him. A police team, led by Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) B.K. Singh, will also be questioning the 11 jail officials, who were suspended pending inquiry, following Jaishankar’s escape.

The investigators will try to find out whether Jaishankar received help in escaping and whether there was any insider involvement. Officials were unwilling to comment on how the prisoner got a duplicate key that he used to escape.

Jaishankar was taken to Victoria and Bowring hospitals and was treated for backache and pain in the left foot, according to Mr. Singh.
