Jail for BDA official in 11-year-old graft case

The Lokayukta Special Court on Thursday convicted two officials, including an Assistant Engineer of the Bangalore Development Authority, sentencing him to 14 months’ imprisonment.

N. Nagendra was caught red-handed in 2002 accepting a Rs. 4,000 bribe to issue permission for a water connection. Some 11 years on, the court gave him the jail term along with Rs. 2,500 fine.

The court also sentenced S. Manjunath, a second division assistant with the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, Yelahanka Division, to a year’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,500.

He was trapped in 2007 when he was taking bribe of Rs. 1,500 from one Nagaraju for changing the katha.
