It is official: monsoon is here

June 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:10 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The rains lashing the city for the past three days are monsoon showers and not a temporary phenomenon, said the India Meteorological Department on Monday, confirming that monsoon has hit Bengaluru and surrounding districts.

In the week before the onset of monsoon in the State on June 8, the city received 79 mm of rain, which is 149 per cent more than the normal expected rainfall.

“As of now, it (monsoon) has not reached the northern limits of the State, but it is likely to soon,” said Geetha Agnihotri, director in-charge, IMD Bengaluru.
