The police are looking for the person who possibly helped make the fake ID for Buela M. Sam, which was used to breach tight security at two ISRO establishments.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) T. Suneel Kumar said the ID card, which has her name and fake designation and address, did not have a logo. “We have asked for a copy of the ID card from the ISRO management to ascertain whether the card was fabricated,” he said.
Meanwhile, the police took Ms. Sam back into their custody for four days for questioning. “We are checking details of her visit to Bangalore, where she stayed and the people she possibly contacted,” he said. “We are not sure whether she is suffering from depression and are checking her claim,” Mr. Kumar said, adding that she claimed that she was under medication and gave inconsistent replies. The police have sought the help of medical professionals to assist them in the investigations.
Teams in all directions
Mr. Kumar said that police teams had been sent in all directions to check her background.
A team has been sent to Kollam where Ms. Sam got her ID card made.
Ms. Sam’s husband, in the meantime, has come to Bangalore in response to the notice issued to him by the Jeevanbimanagar police.
City Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji said investigations were on to know how she got the ID card and also to verify her husband’s statements.
“We want to know if she took somebody's help in creating the ID and in entering the ISRO guesthouse,” he said, adding, “If required we will seek extension of her custody.”
Internal probe
Simultaneously, an internal inquiry has been initiated by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials on the security lapse.
The staff, who were on duty at the entry and exit points from where Ms. Sam gained access, have been summoned seeking explanation. As part of a damage control exercise, a CISF team is combing the entire area to track where Ms. Sam visited and who she met inside the campus during her two-day stay.
Senior officials, including Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sanjay Prakash, who is in charge of ISRO security, were not available for comment.
