Bangalore University Syndicate on Monday decided to replace the custodians at four centres entrusted with evaluation of answer scripts of undergraduate courses.
The decision followed complaints and protests against the irregularities at the valuation centres. The Syndicate meeting presided over by the acting Vice-Chancellor, N. Rangaswamy, also decided to appoint a committee to look into the complaints of irregularities.
Students protest
Even as the Syndicate meeting was under way on Central College premises here, a large number of students gathered under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) and staged a protest demanding that Registrar (Evaluation) R.K. Somashekar be removed.
A Syndicate member told reporters after the meeting that the custodians of commerce evaluation centre at United Mission Degree College and City College, Jayanagar, BCA evaluation centre at Mariappa College, Rajajinagar, and science evaluation centre at Maharani’s College will be changed. “New custodians will assume charge soon,” he said
Other members
Another Syndicate member C.K. Jagadish Prasad told reporters that he had been assigned the responsibility of heading the new committee to look into the alleged irregularities at the valuation centres. It will comprise four other members, will examine valuation systems and also conduct surprise visits.
Earlier, the protesters alleged that Mr. Somashekar had colluded with the custodians at the valuation centres, who were involved in irregularities in evaluation of answer scripts of undergraduate courses.
Meanwhile, the Syndicate members also unanimously upheld the university’s task force report on B.Ed. colleges. “However, the syndicate members are yet to submit a notice to the colleges that have allegedly involved in irregularities,” yet another Syndicate member added.
