The police deputed at the Chinnaswamy Stadium ahead of the IPL finals scheduled for Sunday, had to resort to a mild lathi-charge on Friday to control the crowd during sale of tickets. Trouble started when some people forced their way into the queue, which irked those who had been waiting there, leading to chaos. Since people started running helter-skelter on the road to avoid police action, traffic was disrupted for a few minutes, a senior police officer said. Round-the-clock security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident.
There will be parking restrictions in place on Sunday. Vehicles will not be allowed to park in and around the stadium from 2 p.m. to 11.30 p.m. Except BMTC buses, other vehicles will not be allowed to park on both sides of Queen’s Road, MG Road, Cubbon Road, Lavelle Road, Raj Bhavan Road, Central Street, Dickenson Road, St. Mark’s Road, Museum Road, Kasturba Road and inside Cubbon Park.
Parking for VIP spectators has been arranged at UB city’s pay-and-park facility. KSCA members can park their vehicles on the premises of St. Mark’s Cathedral. Other spectators can park their vehicles in the Shivajinagar bus stand parking lot, St. Joseph’s Indian High School Grounds and Kanteerava Indoor Stadium.
Cricket fans can take BMTC buses to reach the venue. Police officers on special duty at the stadium can park their vehicles on KGID building premises in Cubbon Park.
Spectators can enter the stadium from Gate 1 to Gate 9 on Queen’s Road and those coming from Anil Kumble Circle can enter the arena through Gates 17 to 21, the official release said.
