A day after three motorists suffered burns when there was an explosion in an electricity transformer near Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus depot in Koramangala VI Block on Saturday evening, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom) has said an internal fault caused explosion in the electricity transformer.

A press release issued by Bescom here on Sunday said a Bescom team that inspected the power utility has said that the cause of explosion might have been due to an internal fault that occurred in the transformer “resulting in the temperature of the oil inside going up.” As a result, pressure developed inside the transformer resulting in the sudden oozing out of oil.

The 100 kVA single pole distribution transformer feeds one commercial complex near the BMTC depot. All the three high-tension (HT) fuses were blown out, the release said.
