Intensive course in embedded systems for women

Recognising the lack of gender diversity in the embedded systems community, the Free Software Movement Karnataka, a non-profit organisation promoting open software, will organise a 10-week intensive training for women in embedded systems, called Embedded for Her.

“There are organisations like Python Girls and Women who Code which focus on the software side. There is hardly such representation in the embedded systems community and we would like to change that,” said Prithviraj Narendra, member of FSMK and coordinator for the programme.

The programme will be 80-hour long with emphasis on learning practical hands-on skills, from June 10 to August 12. The cost of materials will be ₹5,000 (participants can take back the projects with them). The course is open to any woman familiar with coding as a hobby, or with a background in computer science, electronics engineering or related branches. The last day for registering on the website www.embeddedforher.com is May 15 and the number of participants is limited to 12. Anyone keen to see more women be part of the electronics community and interested in volunteering for the programme can also write to embeddedforher@fsmk.org.
