A police inspector, Janardana B.L., attached to the Srirampuram station is in the dock for giving a clean chit to a woman who was later arrested on the charge of murdering her husband.

B.S. Suvarna (40) was arrested for the murder of her husband, Rachappaji (45).

Rachappaji was found dead with head injuries at Srirampuram locality in Bangalore in September 2013.

Investigations revealed that Rachappaji frequently fought with Suvarna, suspecting her of infidelity. Fed up, Suvarna allegedly sought the help of her brother B.S. Prashanth in getting rid of Rachappaji.

Prashanth reportedly took Rachappaji to Srirampuram and offered him alcohol. He then took Rachappaji to an isolated place and used a boulder to kill him.

The Srirampuram police recovered Rachappaji’s body, analysed his call details and zeroed in on Suvarna. They summoned Suvarna for questioning but gave her a clean chit.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sandeep Patil, while verifying the progress of pending cases, suspected something amiss and transferred the case to the Nandini Layout police. The Nandini Layout police analysed the call details and called Suvarna and Prashanth to the police station. After detailed questioning, the duo confessed to the crime.

Taking exception to the lapses in investigation, Mr. Patil recommended disciplinary action against the Inspector.
