Inspector, constables facing charges suspended

January 25, 2014 12:12 am | Updated May 13, 2016 12:09 pm IST - Bangalore:

A police inspector, along with three constables, attached to the HAL police station, was suspended on Friday for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs. 3 lakh.

A senior official said that the accused police personnel — Inspector R. Rajesh and constables Venkatesh, Dinesh and Bheem Singh — had allegedly harassed one Javed for the amount.

About two years ago, Javed was involved in cases of cellphone theft and had been punished. Recently, the accused personnel allegedly threatened to file cases against him if he refused to pay them the bribe.

Though Javed gave the amount on Wednesday, he later approached DCP (South East) T.D. Pawar and complained about the threats. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused personnel had received the bribe and have been suspended pending further inquiry.

Suicide

A middle-aged man was found hanging from a tree near Jeevanbima Nagar police station in the early hours of Friday. The deceased is yet to be identified but is judged to be about 35 years and from the northeast region.

Around 12.30 a.m., his body was discovered hanging from the tree by a commuter who alerted the police. Local residents told the police that the man was seen in the vicinity a few days ago but they have no information about him.
