Inspector accused of pocketing booty

October 23, 2013 12:10 am | Updated 12:10 am IST - Bangalore:

Close on the heels of the arrest of a police sub-inspector and two of his constables from the city on charges of “robbing” one kg of gold jewels from an habitual offender, who was allegedly involved in a series of thefts, a Police Inspector attached to the Central Crime Branch (CCB) is in the dock for the same reason.

Tanveer Ahmed allegedly raided the house of Shabbir Pasha, a habitual offender, in Mulbagal, who was allegedly involved in series of thefts in the city and seized gold valuables worth several thousands.

Despite seizing the booty, he did not report this to his seniors and allegedly pocketed the valuables.

The incident came to light when the southeast division police nabbed Shabbir Ahmed in a theft case and upon questioning he revealed about the raid and seizure of booty by Tanveer Ahmed.

The matter was brought to the notice of the senior police officers who, in turn, reported it to the City Police Commissioner.

Probe ordered

Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar ordered Deputy Commissioner of Police, southeast division, T.D. Pawar to conduct and enquiry and submit a report.

Mr. Auradkar confirmed that an enquiry has been initiated.

“At this stage its just an allegation made by a habitual offender, which is being probed and we have nothing concrete information about it,” he said.
