Kumari Shibulal, along with her husband and Infosys co-founder S.D. Shibulal, announced a donation of approximately Rs. 36 crore to two of their charitable institutions, according to a press release here.

The family has pledged 60 per cent of the donation to the Sarojini Damodaran Foundation and the rest to Advait Foundation, in whose philanthropic activities they have been involved for the last 15 years. The first charitable trust was set up in 1999. The two foundations work for various social causes, including education and mentoring, child cardiac surgeries, nutrition, women empowerment, old age pension schemes and organic farming. The donation will be used to finance these causes and increase their reach, said the press release. Ms. Shibulal said in the release, “Compassion is something I have watched my mother practice when I was a little girl growing up in a village in Ramamangalam in Muvattupuzha, Kerala. Someone used to come to our house and ask for food. My mother would either share from her plate or starve to feed another.”
