After Congress candidate from Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency Nandan Nilekeni cast his vote, the indelible ink was put on the index finger instead of the thumb. On being questioned, the matter was played down by the Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha.

“The polling officer inadvertently put the indelible ink on the index finger instead of the left thumb," he said. During the press conference later in the evening, Mr. Jha said: “It is not an irregularity, but has happened by mistake.”
