Rs. 10,000 grant will be given to a deserving theatre troupe in each district
The Karnataka Nataka Academy will grant Rs. 10,000 to a deserving theatre troupe in each district to encourage theatre in the State.
This was announced at the World Theatre Day function organised by the academy and the Department of Culture here on Wednesday where veteran theatre actor Sadashiv Brahmavar was felicitated.
In his inaugural address, well known director C. Basavalingaiah, who also inaugurated the event, spoke about the thrill of theatre. “The direct interaction between the actors and the audience is the biggest challenge and many actors may find it easier to face a camera rather than a live audience.”
Emphasising theatre’s crucial role in society, he said that many messages had been communicated to unlettered populations through this medium. Theatre could be a tool to transform society as it can aptly highlight burning issues. Certainly there is the never-ending space to innovate. “This stage of incompleteness is what helps us to aim for fulfilment.”
Well-known tele-serial actor and theatre personality Girija Lokesh said theatre mirrors the society and life. Audience response was pivotal for performers and theatre persons. Nataka Academy president Malati Sudhir was also present.
