Elsie Rego Noronha sustained injuries after tripping and falling down outside St. Patrick’s Church on Brigade Road on Sunday.

She was to leave for Houston, Texas, on Tuesday, but now her trip has been put off — all because of the poor condition of city’s footpaths. Elsie Rego Noronha (63), a resident of Richmond Road here, sustained injuries after tripping and falling down outside St. Patrick’s Church. Ms. Noronha, who has sustained compression of the vertebrae, told The Hindu that the accident occurred right outside the church. “After attending Mass on Sunday evening, I was trying to cross the road when I tripped due to the impediments on the footpath outside the church,” she said.

Her son’s friend who was passing by immediately rushed a profusely bleeding Ms. Noronha home. Her son then took her to St. John’s Hospital where she had to undergo a CT scan and MRI. “Fortunately, I have not suffered any fractures. But I am now confined at home owing to the city’s bad footpaths.”

She said her nightmarish experience drew attention to the dangerous state of footpaths. “I have gone through enough trauma. While I want BBMP to wake up and take note of the poor condition of footpaths, I doubt if it will pay for my CT Scan, MRI and other medical expenses,” she added.
