A tech initiative to display scanned copies of II PU answer scripts on the Department of Pre-University Education website (http://pue.kar.nic.in/) instead of sending the photocopies by post this year has stumped many parents.

Not familiar with the new system, which would help candidates get their answer scripts quickly, and with little help coming from colleges, several parents and students are struggling to see the answer scripts. While the results were announced on Wednesday, students started applying for the answer script copies on Thursday.

Sudha O., a homemaker, had come to the department office with paid challans issued by the college for obtaining answer script copies and to apply for re-evaluation on behalf of her daughter. She had paid Rs. 4,320 in the bank using a challan issued by the college. She was told by the people manning the helpdesk that the challan issued by the college was invalid. “I was told that the challan should be downloaded only from the department website and all others were invalid. I am hoping to get a refund and will apply afresh,” she told The Hindu .

Many students, particularly those in rural areas who do not have access to facilities such as computers to download the challans, are likely to face anxious moments while trying to get the scanned copies.

Heated arguments

Thursday morning also saw many parents losing their temper as they entered into heated argument with those at the helpdesk after being told to download the challan at cyber cafes or at home. Many parents who do not have access to the Internet and computers argued that the provision to download the challan should be made at the department office.

Taseen Taj, a parent, said she did not have access to a computer and was clueless about the procedure.

Madan G., a student, said the bank where he went to pay the challan directed him to the department. “It would have been convenient if there was netbanking facility t pay the fee,” he said.

Director of the DPUE Rame Gowda said that as it was a new system, confusion was bound to be there, and the department officials had directed colleges and helpdesk people to guide students. He said those who had paid the fee using wrong challans would get a refund.
