The idol that were found on Saturday

Workers engaged in laying new pipelines for providing Cauvery water to homes in Shivaganga Layout in South Bangalore found idols of Hindu deities on Saturday.

Workers of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) found idols of Lord Rama and Sita while they were cutting the trench.

Minutes after the idols were found, scores of residents landed at the spot and even performed rituals and garlanded the two idols.

K. Ramesh Raju, Uttarahalli councillor, urged the officials to dig further as he thought that more idols may be found. “Locals here tell us that the idols are at least 150 years old. We have informed the police and placed the idols in a temple nearby,” he said.

Made of Panchaloha

Mr. Raju said it was likely that the idols were made of Panchaloha. He said that while the idol of Lord Rama weighed 8 kg, the idol of Sita was around 2 kg.
