Idol, gold chains stolen from temple

November 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

Burglars stole the idol of Yellamma along with three gold chains from the Yellamma temple situated in Gopalpura off Magadi Road on Saturday night.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when the priest came to the temple to conduct the morning rituals. He found that the small panchaloha idol of the deity and three gold mangalasutras had been stolen. He informed the neighbours, who alerted the police.

During the investigation, the police found that the main door was intact and no damage was done.

“Burglars have gained access by climbing a peepal tree located next to the temple and then landed on the roof. The tree was located on the premises of the temple and the ceiling had a small opening to accommodate the tree trunk. The burglars may have entered the temple through this gap and made away with the idol along with the ornaments.

The value of the stolen items is yet to be ascertained, the police said.

A case has been registered by the Magadi Road police.
