A private complaint has been filed in the Special Lokayukta Court against officials of the Aitur panchayat in Puttur taluk and the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat accusing them of misuse of Rs. 50 lakh sanctioned under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.
The complainant, K.P. Mohan, also listed Shalini Rajneesh Goel, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, as one of the accused.
Others named are Aitur panchayat president Satish Poojary, zilla panchayat assistant engineer Prabha Chandra, panchayat development officer Vasudeva Gowda, MGNREGA director Manish Moudgil and zilla panchayat ombudsman Seena Shetty. The complaint alleges that the panchayat officials created fake job cards and drew the money from the bank. Though the funds were to construct a new building, they allegedly renovated an old building, using contract labour.
The Special Lokayukta Court posted further hearing to November 7.
