The Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to set up an engineering college in Bangalore.
Taking a cue from the Army’s College of Military Engineering in Pune, the IAF has drafted plans to set up the college of engineering, Air Marshal Rajinder Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command, told The Hindu here on Wednesday.
He was here to inaugurate a polyclinic under the Ex-Servicemen’s Contributory Health Scheme at the IAF base.
“The best thing about Bangalore is that it has several institutions related to aeronautical engineering, avionics and spaces sciences. Specialists from HAL, NAL and other institutions can visit the institute to give lectures. Most of our aircrafts are being developed or built by HAL and NAL. Our students can have a firsthand experience of all those processes,” he said.
Jet trainer
The IAF had decided to induct an intermediate jet trainer built by British Aerospace Systems. The initial process of induction had already started, Air Marshal Singh said.
“The advanced jet trainer Hawk has proved to be a very useful aircraft for training. We are happy with its performance. We hope to get similar results from the intermediate jet trainer manufactured by BAE Systems,” he said.
