‘I advised son to quit firm’

May 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - BENGALURU:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said he advised his son to quit Matrix Imaging Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. which was awarded tender to set up a diagnostic laboratory on the State-run Victoria Hospital premises here.

“I advised my son quit the company. I advised him not to become member of any company as long as I am in power,” Mr. Siddaramaiah said.

The State government’s agreement with Matrix Imaging Solutions, a company which was co-owned by Yathindra Siddaramaiah, a doctor, to establish the diagnostic centre had raked up a controversy on conflict of interest. After facing a fiery attack over charges of nepotism from the Opposition, Mr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah resigned from the firm.

Defends awarding tender

Mr. Siddaramaiah, however, defended awarding of the tender to the company.

The Chief Minister said, “Where is the violation of law? My son is a qualified doctor, and an independent man. But I still advised him to quit the company.”
