Human rights panel recommends CBI probe

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission on Wednesday issued an order recommending a probe by an independent agency, such as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), into the death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi.

The order copy, sent to the Chief Secretary to the government of Karnataka and the Principal Secretary (Home), says such a probe would ensure “objectivity and transparency in the investigation as well as inspire confidence in the public.”

The order further states that though there is no material to suggest that the CID probe would not be impartial, it would create “a serious doubt in the minds of the general public”, as it is under the administrative control of the State government.

The commission has given 15 days’ time for the government to file objections, if any, against the proposal.
