Supporters of Janata Dal (Secular) MLA from Pulakeshi Nagar Akhanda Srinivas Murthy R. staged a protest in front of the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Frazer Town on Thursday demanding the release of Mahesh Kumar, brother of Mr. Murthy, and alleged that the arrest was politically motivated.
>Mahesh Kumar and seven others had been arrested by the D.J. Halli police on charges of demolishing the house of Kumaramangalam, a paramedic from Kaveri Nagar, to take over his property illegally.
The protesters met the senior police officer, accusing the jurisdictional police of falsely implicating Kumar.
However, the police told them that the arrest was based on documentary evidence and advised them to approach the court for respite.
According to the police, Mahesh Kumar had approached the D.J. Halli police seeking their help to vacate Kumaramangalam’s house, claiming ownership.
The police, who summoned Kumaramanalam for enquiry, found that it was his ancestral property and that he was the owner after the death of his father.
The property was under litigation earlier and many had claimed its ownership, but evidence showed that Kumaramangalam not only owned the property, but was also living in the house for the past 15 years, the police said.
Based on the enquiry, the D.J Halli police dismissed the complaint and suggested that Kumar and others to approach the court since it is a civil dispute.
Background
Kumar along with 20 others on Monday razed the house when Kumaramangalam and his wife were away at work and their son had been to school.
Kumaramangalam who returned home to find his house being demolished tried to seek the help from police, but in vain. After the police said they cannot interfere in the matter, which was a civil dispute, he approached City Police Commissioner, Raghavendra Auradkar.
Based on Mr. Auradkar’s direction, the police swung into action and arrested Kumar along with seven others on various charges.
Taking a serious note on the lapses on part of the police, Mr. Auradkar ordered an inquiry against the D.J. Halli police to probe their alleged involvement.
“Since there are many documents created to claim the property, we have advised him to approach the court and secure necessary directions to the BBMP to verify and cancel all fake documents,” an official from D.J. Halli police station said.
Efforts to contact Mr Akhanda Srinivas Murthy went in vain.
