The MICO Layout police have booked a case of fraud against the chief executive officer of a private IT company on Bannerghatta Road after trainees alleged that they were not paid the promised stipend for over four months.

Hundreds of employees staged a protest outside the office on Wednesday, demanding the private company return the security deposit of Rs. 30,000 that had been collected from each trainee.

On Wednesday, they went to the house of CEO Sri Karthik and demanded to see him. His brother offered to fetch him, but slipped away. The employees took the CEO’s mother hostage and kept her with them till late in the night; she was dropped back home later.

The employees filed a complaint late in the night with the MICO Layout police, who have registered a case of fraud under Section 420 of the IPC. Police officers said that the company had cheated around 3,000 trainees. An officer said, “We are trying to ascertain the amount amassed through the fraud. Right now, we are focussing on tracing Sri Karthik. We want to question him.”
