‘Hospital staff swindled commission’

January 15, 2013 10:33 am | Updated 10:33 am IST - Bangalore

The manager of a private hospital has been accused of misappropriating Rs. 4.3 lakh by manipulating documents. The money was to have been handed over to agents referring the hospital to patients, a police complaint said.

Amit Agarwal, chairperson of Medihope Super-speciality Hospital in Malleshpalya, has filed a complaint against Sujay Mathew with the Byappanahalli police.

Dr. Agarwal said that the money was meant to be disbursed as commission to those who refer patients to the hospital. When Mathew was appointed marketing manager of the hospital in February last year, he was asked to take care of disbursing the commissions.

The embezzlement came to light when the agents complained to the hospital administration. When Dr. Agarwal sought an explanation, Mathew not only threatened him but also stopped coming to work, the complaint said. Investigation is on.
