Several areas in the eastern parts of Bangalore went without power supply for several hours on Monday evening as Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited’s (KPTCL) Hoody station, which caters to these areas, suffered a technical snag.
Power supply was restored around 9 p.m. Bescom officials stated that the cause of the outage was a fault in the supply of power to Bescom itself which had to wait for KPTCL to set right the fault at the 400 kV Hoody station.
The areas affected included Whitefield, Marathahalli, Hoody, K.R. Puram, HSR Layout, BTM Layout, Shivajinagar and R.T. Nagar.
The technical snag in the Hoody station resulted in a shortage of 200 MW of power. The problem assumed complex proportions as this shortage came during the evening peak hours of summer when the demand for power is high.
Steps were taken to reduce the impact of the shortage as well as areas affected to some extent by drawing additional power from other power stations in the city, sources said.
“About one-seventh of the geographical area in Bangalore city was affected due to the technical snag in Hoody station,” the sources added.
