Home Minister K.J. George visited the nine-year-old girl, who was allegedly sexually assaulted off Begur Main Road in Electronics City, at St. John’s Hospital in the city on Sunday and assured her parents of financial assistance from the State government.

The girl was on her way back to her house from school on Saturday when an unidentified man had dragged her to an isolated place where she was allegedly sexually assaulted. Later, her parents had filed a complaint with the police.

The Home Minister said the government would bear the medical expenses and also assured her parents that he would personally provide them a financial aid of Rs. 1 lakh.

Meanwhile, seven police teams have been formed under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) T.D. Pawar to investigate the case. However, they are yet to record an official statement from the girl, who is recovering in the hospital.

Medical authorities at St. John’s Hospital said the medical examination had showed signs of sexual assault. They said she was conscious but needed time to heal psychologically.

Members of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) also paid a visit to the hospital on Sunday. K.S. Vimala of AIDWA said: “The girl spoke to us normally but is too young to even understand what she has undergone. It is saddening and we are disgusted at the increasing number of such cases. The financial condition of her parents is very poor and they too have extended their cooperation to us in this matter.”

The AIDWA members will be staging a protest on Monday morning at the Bommanahalli junction near Prashant Nursing home at 10 a.m.
