After a two-hour long extensive search of the premises, the Sarjapur police declared the bomb threat as a hoax.

Panic prevailed at Wipro facility in Sarjapur on Friday after a bomb threat, forcing authorities to evacuate thousands of employees.

Bomb disposal squads were rushed to the spot and employees were moved to safety, after the Sarjapur police received an anonymous letter warning to explode 19 bombs at around 11 a.m.

After a two-hour long extensive search of the premises, the police declared it to be a hoax.

According to the police, the inland letter reached them on Friday morning. Soon, the bomb disposal squad was rushed in. “Even though we knew it was a hoax, we took the issue seriously as per the standard operating procedure,” a senior police officer said and added that investigations were on to ascertain the source of the letter.

Meanwhile, a statement from Wipro said: “As a matter of routine, a security check was undertaken at Wipro’s Sarjapur campus. Our operations continue to be business as usual.”
