A 13-year-old girl was found dead at a residential school in Sarjapur on Thursday morning. The girl, Vyshali, had a brain tumour that she was reportedly not aware of. She was in the fifth standard at a community school run Indus International School, said the police.
According to her classmates, she started complaining of a headache the night before and retired to bed early. On Thursday morning, the students were shocked to see her lying motionless on her bunker bed with froth coming out of her mouth, said the police. The school staff took her to a hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Bheemashankar G., superintendent of the police, said that the post-mortem showed she had died from internal bleeding caused by a brain tumour. “The doctors, who conducted the post-mortem, clarified that there were no external injuries on the body and ruled out foul play,” he said.
Vyshali is the daughter of Suguna, who sells flowers in Madivala. Her father Rajendra deserted them long ago.
Indus International School runs a community schooling program that provides free boarding and education to underprivileged children. Vyshali was one of four students in the programme and had been studying in the school for five years, police said.
The Sarjapura police have registered a case of unnatural death, and handed over the body to the family for the final rites.
"We are deeply saddened and the management is providing full support to Vyshali’s family to deal with this tragedy," the school management told The Hindu .
