A spectacular performance by the “dream girl” of yesteryear Hema Malini at the 48th Bengaluru Ganesh Utsav at APS College Grounds here on Sunday added colour to the Vinayaka Chaturthi festivities this time.

Organised by Shree Vidyaranya Yuvaka Sangha, the 48th Bengaluru Ganesh Utsav started on Saturday. While the first day saw an enthralling performance by Veena artiste Suma Sudhindra and her troupe, Hema Malini performed a classical dance-drama titled Radha Krishna on the second day. The troupe, comprising 22 young talented dancers, belongs to Ms. Hema Malini's Natya Vihar Kalakendra. Specially choreographed for the Ganesh Utsav, the troupe performed a 12-minute Ganesh Aradhana based on the musical Vishwa Siddhi Vinayak. A special life-sized Ganesha (made out of cloth) was installed on the stage. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Hema Malini said: “I would love to perform in Bangalore as this is where I shot my hit film ‘Sholay' and my guru, Kitappa Pillai, also belongs to Bangalore. What I am performing today is not for any exclusive audience. I am happy this platform has been created where thousands of people can enjoy creative performances such as these.”

“This platform has become a pious ground with several top artistes from India performing for a single cause — celebration of Indian culture,” she added.
