Helmetless ride proved costly

January 04, 2015 03:04 pm | Updated 03:04 pm IST - Bengaluru:

Balaji (21), son of a vegetable vendor and 2nd year B.Com., student, was killed after he was thrown off his two-wheeler when he was negotiating an unscientifically made road hump near Jalahalli Cross on Thursday.

According to police, Balaji was returning home after the New Year party when the accident occurred. He was riding the motorcycle without wearing the helmet. Besides that his two friends were riding pillion, and he himself was drunk.

Following the death of Balaji, Naresh Shetty, president of M.S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital, urged the government to ensure scientific designing of all road humps or get badly constructed humps removed.
