Health Minister defends Planning Department’s rating

Health Minister U.T. Khader on Tuesday defended his department being rated in the bottom position by the Planning Department in its annual Results Framework Document (RFD) for the year 2013-14.

“The rating has been done on the basis of file clearance. Health, Social Welfare, Urban Development and Revenue are all important departments and all these have been rated under ‘C’ category because the file clearance here is slow compared to other departments because of several legal issues,” he said.

He said several files could not be cleared because they were related to court cases. “We are doing our best and I want my department to further work hard for the benefit of people,” he said.

The Planning Department has assessed the performance of each department on the basis of certain parameters such as vision, targets, objectives of programmes, implementation of schemes, and activities. The Health and Family Welfare department scored 58.69%.
