A head constable attacked to Vyalikaval was stabbed by a gang of three muggers on Thursday night.

Nagraj (59), on night rounds with constable Revannasiddappa, noticed an autorickshaw moving suspiciously on Pipeline Road. The duo stopped the auto and asked those in it to come to the station for enquiry.

While Nagraj got into the auto, constable Revannasiddappa followed them on his motorcycle. After moving a few yards one of the men in the auto stabbed Nagraj and pushed him out of the vehicle. Revannasiddappa began chasing the autorickshaw after informing passers-by to take care of Nagaraj.

In a bid to escape the autorickshaw toppled. Revanasiddappa managed to nab the driver, identified as Manjunath, while two others managed to flee. Enquires revealed that the trio had grabbed a mobile phone from a passer-by in Malleswaram and was moving towards Vyalikaval to look out for others to rob them.
