The Karnataka High Court on Friday stayed a notification issued by the State Government in July this year withdrawing the 2003 notification by which the catchment areas of Tippagondanahally reservoir was classified into several zones and restrictions had been imposed on developmental activities in these zones.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D H Waghela and Justice Budihal R B passed the interim order.

A single judge bench had referred the matter to the Division Bench while treating the government's action of withdrawing the 2003 notification as a decision impacting larger public interest with the reservoir being one of the main sources of drinking water to Bangalore city.

The government had withdrawn the 2003 notification after many persons had questioned the notice issued by various authorities for demolishing structures put up in violation of zonal restrictions in the protected zones of catchment area.
