The Karnataka High Court on Monday set a 48-hour deadline for the Bangalore Rural Superintendent of Police (SP) to trace a 17-year-old girl, who went missing 14 months ago.

A Division Bench comprising Justice N. Kumar and Justice B.S. Indrakala issued an oral direction after summoning the SP to the court during the hearing of a habeas corpus petition filed by girl’s father.

The Bench pulled up the police for their failure to trace the girl though they had arrested some people who had allegedly helped the girl elope with Mohan, a native of Bellavi village in Tumkur district.

The petitioner said he had filed two complaints in the Hebbugodi police station. The father of the girl had lodged a missing complaint on December 22, 2012, and on January 25, 2013, he informed the police that he had come to know through one Srinivas that three persons namely Mohan, Dinesh and Girish had taken away his daughter in a vehicle.

Attibele Circle Inspector told the court that they had launched a search in Bangalore city, Sira in Tumkur and Nelamangala besides other areas. .

“What is the difficulty in tracing the girl? What you have done in the past 14 months?,” the Bench orally observed while adjourning the case till Friday.
