The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday sought from Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) a report on the location of the electricity transformer on Church Street that was allegedly the cause of “electrocution” of a 37-year-old engineer in May last year.
Justice Ram Mohan Reddy passed the order on a petition filed by wife and family members of the victim, Manojkumar V. Patil, who was vice-president at Sundaram Auto Components Ltd.
The petitioners have demanded compensation totalling Rs. 29.81 crore from Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Bescom) alleging that Manojkumar V. Patil was electrocuted when he held the fence around the transformer for support. However, Bescom denied the allegation and contended that the post-mortem report does not categorically attribute the cause of death to electric shock but only states that death was due to cardiac arrest and “electrocution being one of the reasons [for cardiac arrest] cannot be ruled out”.
