The Karnataka High Court has pulled up the State government for not invoking the Essential Services Maintenance (ESMA) Act against government doctors to prevent them from going on strike.
The Court also wanted to know why the government did not put in place alternative facilities when it was aware of the doctors’ strike more than a month ago.
The court made these observations while hearing a PIL on problems faced by people due to the non-availability of doctors at government hospitals. However, the government said all the doctors have reported back to duty on Wednesday.
