HC fumes over sewage flowing into lakes

February 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

Expressing displeasure over the slow action by the authorities in plugging the entry of sewage into city’s 183 lakes, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday summoned the two engineers of BBMP and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB).

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D.H. Waghela and Justice Ram Mohan Reddy issued the direction after it noticed that no progress has been made to stop inflow of sewage into lakes despite a direction issued in this regard more than two months ago.

The Chief Engineer (Storm Water Drains) of the BBMP and the Chief Engineer of BWSBB will have to be present in the court during all days of hearing on a PIL petition filed by Citizens’ Action Group.

The Bench questioned how much time the authorities require if they are able to plug only two sewage points pertaining to Allalasandra and Yelahanka lakes during two months.

Two engineers from BBMP, BWSSB directed to attend all PIL hearings on the issue
