A Division Bench of the Karnataka High Court will on Friday hold an interactive session with the seven members of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) expert committee on Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSW).
The Bench, comprising Justice N. Kumar and Justice B.V. Nagarathna, which is monitoring measures taken to solve the city’s garbage problem through a batch of public interest litigation petitions filed by various persons and NGOs, decided to have interaction separately with experts as a detailed interaction is not possible in an open court room.
The Bench said it was important to know the views of all members of the committee, which has already submitted its report on MSW to the Court.
Meanwhile, the Bench while modifying its earlier order, allowed the Ministry of Environment and Forests to consider objections received for the draft new MSW Rules 2013, which is notified for amending the MSW Rules 2000. The Bench directed the Ministry to place the draft final new rules for scrutiny of the court before giving effect to it.
Earlier, the Bench had asked the Ministry to keep on hold the draft new rules.
‘Wrong impression’
They said the proposed new rules gives an impression that the government wants to do away with segregation of waste at source while observing that any such move would adversely impact the action already taken for segregating waste at source and crores of rupees spent on creating awareness among. The Bench asked the Ministry to keep in mind the orders passed by the court based on the existing rules while bringing new rules.
