Havyaka vedike members want Raghaveshwara Bharathi to quit

October 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - BENGALURU:

Members of the Samana Manaskara Havyaka Vedike on Saturday called upon seer of Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt Raghaveshwara Bharathi, who is facing rape charges, to relinquish his post without any delay and protect the sanctity of the mutt besides upholding the faith of devotees.

At a press conference here, vedike president and former Minister K.H. Srinivasa and member of the mutt M.N. Bhat took exception to the seer and his followers terming the charge of the seer raping a singer as a mere conspiracy even after he has been charge-sheeted by the Criminal Investigation Department.

Mr. Srinivasa urged the State government to intervene and appoint an administrator to the mutt to safeguard its financial position.

Mr. Bhat alleged that a large number of devotees had lost respect towards the seer and stopped visiting the mutt. He urged the seer to protect the sanctity of the 1,200-year-old mutt set up by Adi Shankara.
