A 28-year-old software engineer jumped from the eighth floor of his office building at the IT park Eco Spacein Bellandur late Monday night. Gulshan Chopra who hails from Jalandhar had been working as an analyst with Genpact for the last 1.5 years.

According to the police, the young man, after completing his nightshift, walked to the washroom and jumped from the window. A security guard on duty alerted the HSR Layout police. He did not leave a suicide note.

Gulshan had only recently returned from his hometown last week where he got engaged. The marriage was scheduled to be held in November. According to the police, he returned to work two days ago.

Investigators are probing both his personal and professional life to see what may have forced him to take this step. “There was no suicide note. We have recovered his laptop and mobile phone for a detailed analysis to ascertain the cause of death,” said a police officer, adding that initial inquiries revealed that he may have been harassed by a senior. “Some colleagues claimed that he was depressed and kept to himself,” he added.

Meanwhile, Genpact has refuted the harassment theory. “Genpact is a very employee-centric and we have very strict policies around harassment. It doesn't seem likely at all," said a spokesperson, adding the company was "deeply shocked" by the incident. "We are cooperating with the local authorities to ensure that the investigation can be done smoothly. The employee's parents and family were informed and we are extending our support for them to come down to Bangalore. He will be missed by all his colleagues."
