The first Lakshya-1, a fully indigenous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) developed for the Indian Army by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL) was delivered to Bharat Dynamics Ltd. (Hyderabad) at a function here on Friday.
K. Naresh Babu, HAL’s Managing Director, handed over the delivery documents to P.K. Srivastava Director (Production) BDL.
Lakshya-1 has been designed and developed by the Aero Engine Research & Development Centre, a HAL facility in Bangalore. It is a training aid high performance reusable target system, a release said.
It realistically simulates enemy aircraft for air-to-air and surface-to-air weapon system operators and permits proficiency assessment and improvement of weapon crew in live fire engagement, it said.
It is powered with PTAE-7 Engine, an aero gas turbine engine that was also designed and developed by the Aero Engine Research & Development Centre. “The aircraft has been delivered ahead of schedule in a record 15 months in contrast with the usual 24 months of normal manufacturing cycle time,” said R.K. Tyagi, Chairman, HAL.
