Habitual bike lifters arrested

January 06, 2015 06:49 pm | Updated 06:49 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The Ashok Nagar police have arrested two habitual bike lifters and recovered stolen bikes worth Rs. 5 lakhs from them.

The accused Kumaran (45) and Wazir Pasha (61) stole vehicles parked outside the houses using duplicate keys and sold them at junk yards.

Based on their information, the police have recovered 11 motorcycles and three autorickshaws.

Additional Commissioner of Police, P. Harishekhar meanwhile directed the police officers to visit the junk yards falling under their jurisdictions and warned the owners not to buy stolen goods.

More than 20 per cent of the stolen vehicles are being sold at the junk yards helping the police in tracking them.

The junk owners sell the bikes part by part and tracking the vehicles becomes impossible, he said.

There are around 1,000 junk shops across the city and the owners have been asked not to purchase stolen goods, failing which they will be dealt with severely, he said.
