Gym instructor convicted for three years under POCSO

A gym instructor, accused of molesting a 17-year-old pre university student at a fitness centre in Kundalahalli in April last year, has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment by a City Civil Court. He was tried under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) of 2012. POCSO court judge Shubha Gouder also slapped a fine of Rs. 3,000 on Vijaya Kumar.

The incident occurred at Body and Soul Gym. Vijaya Kumar molested the complainant on the pretext of teaching exercises. She filed a complaint with the HAL police.

Incidentally, the victim had studied in the same school in Bangalore east where a six-year-old was allegedly raped recently.
