A petty quarrel with a newspaper stall owner over a 50 paise change resulted in injuries to four persons when an enraged security guard opened two rounds of fire from his double barrel breech loading (DBBL) gun.

The incident occurred at Udayanagar near Garudachar Palya close to Whitefield on Wednesday morning when ex-serviceman R.K. Mishra, working as a security guard for a private bank ATM, opened fire, pointing the barrel towards the ground, and the pellets ricocheted, hitting four persons.

According to Mahadevapura police, the accused, a native of Uttar Pradesh, was in the habit of buying a Hindi newspaper from Bhagya News Agency regularly. According to the preliminary investigation, the stall owner Om Prakash used to give a chocolate worth 50 paise since Mishra would not tender exact change.

“The duo have been fighting over this issue for the past few months, and on Wednesday Mishra opened fire,” an officer attached to the East Division told The Hindu .
