In light of the poor response to tenders for building skywalks in the city, the government is toying with the idea of waiving the ground rent for skywalks that the investors had to pay the civic agency. While Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had been issuing tenders for 100 and 25 skywalks in the city over the past two years respectively, only 29 have got successful bids till date. Of the 29, only eight have been completed. Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George inaugurated three of the eight completed skywalks on Monday, near Forum Mall in Koramangala, near Gopalan Mall off Mysuru Road, and near Yeshwanthpur Railway Station.
Mr. George said that the government was mulling over forming a single-window clearance committee with multiple agencies in the city, for infrastructure like skywalks, toilets and bus stands.
