June 01, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 16, 2016 09:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

The State government on Tuesday submitted details of air pollution in Bengaluru as well as vehicle density and number of diesel vehicles plying in the city as per the directives of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which is considering a ban on diesel vehicles.

“We had earlier given an affidavit with statistics of the vehicle population in the State. Today morning we have submitted details like density of vehicles, air pollution data, number of three-wheelers, two-wheelers and cars,” said a senior official.

NGT on Monday asked Chief Secretaries of eight States to submit the data or face possible arrest. In earlier orders, based on a petition filed by Lawyers Environmental Awareness Forum, NGT banned diesel vehicles over 10 years old from six cities and also banned diesel vehicles with a cubic capacity over 2,000 cc from the National Capital Region. On Tuesday, NGT reportedly gave time till July 11 for all the States to submit names of cities which see air pollution.
