The State Cabinet on Thursday rejected the report of the Kedambadi Jagannatha Shetty Commission of Inquiry, which termed the violence at Haveri on June 10, 2008, during the tenure of former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa as “politically motivated”. The Congress was then the principal Opposition party in the State.
The commission had presented its report in two volumes to the then Home Minister, the late V.S. Acharya, in April 2010. Apparently, the report had given a clean chit to Mr. Yeddyurappa.
Two farmers — Siddalingappa Choori and Puttappa Honnatti — were killed in the police firing. But, the commission said the two who were killed were not famers. It said the violence was politically motivated and did not occur owing to the fertilizer crisis in the district.
A Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has decided to place the inquiry report before the State Legislative Assembly during the budget session, which will commence on Friday, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra told presspersons here.
The commission had held its proceedings for 18 months and made recommendations to the previous government.
Other decisions
In another major decision, the Cabinet has taken back 480 acres allotted to Hassan Thermal Power Plant Ltd. at the industrial estate in Hassan in 1997, during the J.H. Patel regime. Though the land was allotted for the plant, the financier had not executed the project for the last 19 years.
It was decided to fill Karnataka Administrative Service (junior grade) posts by post-based classification instead of vacancy-based classification.
Toll
It was decided to collect toll on six roads to be developed with World Bank aid under the Karnataka State Highway Improvement Project.
The roads are: Bagewadi-Savadatti (63.29 km), Bidar-Chincholi (60.4 km), Hassan-Periyapatna (74.54 km), Hirekerur-Ranebennur (58.30 km), Mundargi–Harappanahalli (51.21 km) and Hungund-Talikote (56.82 km).
It was decided to direct the BDA to allot 2,400 sq.ft housing plot at HBR Layout in Bengaluru to the family of PSI Jagadish, who was stabbed to death by thieves.
