Govt. move on KPSC chief hits roadblock

The government’s move to get T. Sham Bhatt as chairman, Karnataka Public Service Commission, has hit a roadblock with Tuesday’s High Court order directing the government to follow the P.C. Hota Committee recommendations for selection of the chairman.

The government will now have to form a selection committee, which will have to shortlist two candidates for the post, of which the Chief Minister can select one.

The State government that had recommended Mr. Bhatt’s name for the chairmanship of KPSC will now have to restart the process, and Mr. Bhatt will have to apply before the search panel and compete with other aspirants.

The Governor had returned the file recommending the appointment of Mr. Bhatt seeking certain clarifications.

The Governor had also taken a report from the Lokayukta on the cases pending against him.
