Governor H.R. Bhardwaj on Friday blamed lack of communication for the exodus of people from the northeast and suspected a political agenda behind the panic.
Speaking during a book launch here, he said: “It is all politics. How can northeast students be made to feel that they are not secure in Bangalore? It is the safest place in the country. There is a lack of communication. Something is amiss somewhere. It needs to be investigated.” He also appealed to people not to flee.
Expressing satisfaction with the State government’s handling of the issue, he said “sincere efforts” were being made.
The Governor said he had spoken to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Thursday night. “I have asked him to deal [the strife there] with a heavy hand. Otherwise, this country will become like Yugoslavia.”
Earlier he released the book Beautiful Country: Stories from another India , by Syeda Hameed and Gunjan Veda.
